The Right Dog Bed
Selecting the right dog bed has much to do with the manner in which your dog sleeps. A dog should be comfortable when he sleeps, and the right dog bed can provide him with that comfort.
If you bought your dog a bed when he was a puppy, most likely the bed will not fit him anymore. With routine use over the years, he may have compacted the bed into a lumpy mass of cloth and the cushion may be worn out.
Purchasing a dog bed does not require a lot of money, however, it does require some consideration and forethought.
Your dog will be much happier and more content if you find a dog bed that is right for him. He needs a comfortable place to sleep since he will be less likely to curl up on the couch or your own bed. You should not let your dog sleep with you as it could cause dominance problems.
Consider the following aspects when shopping for a dog bed: A bed that offers comfort; protects the dog’s extremities; and maintains his body heat. You should also purchase a dog bed that resists moisture and is easy to clean.
The bed should be soft, yet durable, and it should be resistant to dust and poisonous substances. Do not buy a dog bed that becomes springy or loose after routine use. The best types of covers for dog beds are those that are removable and machine washable.
There are many different types of dog beds from which to choose. These include slumber beds, bean beds, cushion beds and donut or nesting beds.
Some of the slumber beds come with hoods; and a few even contain fur lining.
The bean beds are covered with a soft fabric and are composed of a certain type of material that maintains your dog’s shape when he changes position. Some are filled with materials that resist moisture, such as cedar.
Cushion beds have soft fabric covers, many of which are sheepskin texture over a foam encased in plastic. This provides good support for a sleeping dog. The plastic prevents the moisture from getting into the foam mattress and ruining it.
The donut or nesting bed is a cushion type bed which contours around your pet, enabling him to nestle in the center of the bed.
